Am I correct in thinking that there are no hidden charges like vat or excise duty if I buy loads of CDs from say mdt.co.uk and/or jpc.de?

Thanks in advance.

Although I buy from both of these outlets I have never bought in bulk from either of them but I think that since both are in the EU you will already have paid VAT on your purchases and Duty should only apply to purchases from outside the EU....so you should be ok on both fronts.

There is no excise duty, however you will pay VAT at whatever the current rate is in that country, at source. So for example, if you buy from the UK you will pay 17% VAT. You are not charged VAT again at entry into this country.

That whole VAT/excise thing only is applied to parcels coming from outside the EU.....

I think it is a bit more complicated. If the company has a large sales volume in Ireland they have to register with the Irish tax officials and charge the Irish VAT rate rather than the local one. This happens with amazon.co.uk and the VAT goes from 17% to 21% [Irish rate] when you check-out your purchases. But there are no hidden extras -- they show the increased total price when you check-out.
