This appears on the liner notes of Gil Scott Heron's "I'm New Here". I thought it worthwhile to post.....

There is a proper procedure for taking advantage of any investment.
Music, for example. Buying music is an investment.
To get the maximum you must

LISTEN TO IT FOR THE FIRST TIME UNDER OPTIMUM CONDITIONS.

Not in your car or on a portable player through a headset.
Take it home.
Get rid of all distractions, (even her or him).
Turn off your cell phone.
Turn off everything that rings or beeps or rattles or whistles.
Make yourself comfortable.
Play your LP.
LISTEN all the way through.
Think about what you got.
Think about who would appreciate this investment.
Decide if there is someone to share this with.
Turn it on again.
Enjoy Yourself.

Yep, I thought it was eloquent, not kitsch.

Yes, see the other thread..... very impressed by it. Think ive had it on 3 times tonight - been a long time since that happened.

Not his biggest fan - I think he's interesting, but this one has impressed me. I love his version of me and the devil blues.

Yes we do, it's just not what we call them! Fran was quoting: do you think he should supply footnotes for Irish consumers, or just assume that we would understand the term, even if it's not the one we would choose ourselves?
