The material up to 24/96 plays fine on USB1.1 (12mbps). For any files above that you need USB2.0+.
Thanks Fryderck I did a bit more digging last night and came across that on another forum. Really on the items linked it is just a case of whether they are implemented as well as the Intona and accepting stuff above 24/96 would mean removing it from the system. Will check prices again but you are getting a unit with the industrial connector for prices ranging from €80-130 as against 270 to nearly 400 for the intona.
I would reckon 90%+ of my stuff is 16/44 to 24/96
I think there is some confusion here
A USB device when connected to a PC negotiate with one another the fastest speed that they will operate at. For most USB audio devices now, this is usually USB 2.0 high speed (480mbps).

Now this is the speed it always uses throughout its communication with the PC - it doesn't drop to USB 1.1 when receiving audio files < 24/96 - it always transmits at 480mbps - this is why those isolators will not work with most USB audio devices.

The Intona, & some optical offerings from Corning & some other company I can't remember are the only products that do USB high speed isolation & they are not cheap

Thanks John sometimes the point has to be hammered home a couple of times before it sinks in! Hope Pearse cancels his order

There is this one from Coolgear which claims to be a USB 2.0 high-speed isolator for $150 but $70 shipping to Irl
http://www.coolgear.com/product/usb-2-0 ... lock-cable

If others were interested in this, it might be worth checking out their volume pricing & shipping costs?

PS. Adnaco was the other company that offers USB high-speed optical isolation

If customs got hold of a box of them it could leave them pretty expensive
I'd imagine we could arrange a pickup courier for less

The isolator isolates three wires that may be of benefit d+ d- and gnd not mentioning +5 as it should be powered cleanly
In Tony's the isolator benefit was obvious
But then again Tony has/had two gnd connections to this DAC one via USB and the other via PC monitor and mains earth into LZ and or amp via interconnects
This means gnd is not actually isolated and still connected by a very long dubious route and the only wires isolated is now d+ and d-
But it did stop a ground loop possibility

Propose that the intona is restested in PC DAC ground loop free conditions

Might not solve anything but think it's the only Rock we didn't turn over that day

Courier companies always charge customs fees so that would not be the lowest cost shipping solution

Yea, I agree but Pearse has found improvements with his configuration, too!

There might be a glimer of hope with USPS but 70 bucks is what I'd expect for shipping a dozen
Maybe import duty is included?

The mutiple signal return route isn't just a problem for tony but all of us using a desktop mobo and monitor
It would be a shame to be buying isolators just to rectify a gnding issue

A b testing intona with a laptop might be as handy

Did you come across any up skirt pics of the coolgear?
