A question for Fran I think!

My Wife's nephew has just moved into his newly built house and we are visiting this weekend
when I will be setting up his AVI ADM9 speakers connected to his masssive Philips Ambient TV.

When the house was built it had all the wiring put in for the necessary connections and the wires
are currently hiding behind very nice & expensive brass cover plates.

I am planning to put phono sockets (active speakers) on these brass plates behind the TV, both speakers and subwoofer
and solder the wires to these so he can simply have short interconnect cables feeding from the wall to the speakers e.t.c.

The problem is that I have these brass wall plates in front of me now and I am not sure how easy it is going
to be to drill the necessary holes into the brass for the phono sockets.

I have a simple cordless drill which I mainly use for twisting wires for my cables, is brass easily drillable? any tips
so I don't ruin these brass plates when attempting to drill them?

Any help apreciated

Brass should drill easily enough - similar to aluminium. The main danger is that your drill bit skates and scrapes the surface. I would recommend putting a little bit of masking tape over the area you want to dril to cover it, then use a punch to mark the point you want to drill. Drill a smaller holes first (say 3, 4 or 5 mm) before the 9.5 or 10mm you'll need for the RCAs.

Cordless should be AOK for the job
