Marantz CD 10 Belt Replacement

After much gnashing of teeth and troubleshooting other possible handy fixes (my mate the engineer did that bit) we finally had to try replacing the belts. First one was handy. Second two were a bit more tricky but of course the one causing the problem was the beggar buried in the entrails of the transport. Fear of having the thing explode in many tiny pieces was the main reason to try and avoid changing that belt but in the end we had no choice as it seemed to be definitely the problem. A bit of jiggery pokery and fluteology finally got the machine up and running again. Result! The belt kit was only €20 but I reckon an engineer would charge at least an hour`s labour (as said would hopefully know what they were doing and not be having numerous tea/cigarette ans cake break!) so a saving of around €100 I reckon. CD-4 mech I think so if any of ye are having a "Disc" "Error" problem this may well be the simple fix required. There was much celebration when we powered the machine up and it read and played a disc. Happy Wednesday folks :-)

When researching possible causes for the problem it seemed most likely that it was a belt problem. The general consensus was that it was a job for a novice...if by novice you mean mechanical/electrical engineer!!! That said, I reckon I could do the same job myself now but definitely needed to do it at least once with a qualified person as having the entire machine open (top/bottom and side plates removed) and plugged in(!), it could have resulted in a visit to St. Vincent`s if not careful where hands are placed!

Well done, nice to see a result.
I bet the music sounds better knowing you were hands on.
A little bit of job satisfaction is a great booster.

Cheers Derek. I was fixing it for a friend. As I hadn`t bought him anything for his 40th I said I`d give fixing the machine a go. After my first unsuccessful attempt I thought I may have bitten off more than I could chew but delighted myself and my engineer mate were able to sort it. Lots of "yay`s" and smiles afterwards as it got to the point where we weren`t going to stop until we fixed the d**m thing!

Well done lad, it can be daunting to fiddle about it there - especially when it's plugged in! Very satisfying when it works of course... and you don't wake up to the smell of burning and your friends looking down at you.

Ha! Cheers Ivor. Dropped the player up to him last night. He`d all but given up hope so he`s delighted now.

CD 10 has the cermamic sides and copper screws everywhere. Built like a tank alright. Top job!
