The National

Just saw The National last night. Fantastic gig, location was reasonably intimate, no seating but comfortable standing with personal space and everyone fairly near the stage. Band were great, really had it together, did a nice mixed set covering a few albums, the majority from "Trouble Will Find Me". Sound was spot on and they really pounded it out at times and most of the time tweaked the songs expertly for live performance .
Up to that point I would have said great gig but ut was the encore that nailed it. For 2 of the encore songs the lead singer got off the stage and just worked his way through the crowd, back to front, left to right, while singing away. And then they ended with a fully instrumented version of "Vanderlyle, crybaby" which was great. No mic, just projecting it out, brilliant.
