As one who's always appreciated Fahey I'm delighted you've discovered him :) Wasn't aware of the doc so thanks for that. Hope they repeat it as I'd love to see it. Saw him live in concert about six months before he passed away and managed to get talking to him in a quick autograph moment. I'm sure you're aware of all the stuff I've written about him here? Are you into vinyl? There's a beautiful 6 Lp box set of his early stuff in Tower, Dublin or you can buy them seperately.....

Edit: I see the DVD is available too :) Though it's only 57 minutes long!!!!

Hi Dermot, had heard of him often but never investigated him at all - don't know why. Definitely will look into his stuff, what would you recommend as a good place to start?

Shane,

Wow, that's a loaded question ;) How much have you got to spend lol :) Do you like compilations?
I'm assuming it's CDs your after ok? Some say if you buy one Fahey album that's really all you need as they all have a similar sound. Yeah, right?????? No, seriously, I gave up trying to explain Fahey aeons ago. You either get him or you don't. End of ;)

Compilations:

1. Return of the Repressed dbl if you can find it :) Try eBay for a cheap copy.....

2. The Best of John Fahey 1959 - 1977

Box set:

1. The Transcendental Waterfall : Ist 6 albums - Lp only I think

Albums:

#5 & 7 are his most accessable/variable albums. #5 in particular is a little beaut......

1. Blind Joe Death

2. The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death

3. Days Have Gone By

4. America

5. Of Rivers and Religion

6. Railroad - I'm not familiar with this but it's supposed to be a good one....

7. Let Go

8. Red Cross - his very last recordings

There's loads of stuff on YouTube; try and listen to whole tracks rather than jumping from one to the other. Enjoy the trip and do report back and tell us what you think.....

Anyway here's a Wire special on the man. NOT for the fainthearted....
