Mozart Violin Sonatas Recommendations?

Post by fergus »

I was talking to Seán today about recommendations for a complete set of Mozart's Violin Sonatas. I have the two below both of which I find very good. What other recommendations would people suggest. I personally would be interested in a period performance set if one exists.

If you want all the sonatas on period instruments, then Rachel Podger is a safe bet.

In the modern violin Arthur Grumiaux is in a class of his own.

But there are several outstanding independent recordings like Fabio Biondi´s.

Well there you go, I like Perlman, love Lupu and Grumiaux, I'm stuck.

Thank you for that Pepe. I would have been disappointed if you had not mentioned Grumiaux. I expected Biondi to feature somewhere and I would not have thought of Podger at all in Mozart for some reason.

I have the Perlman/ Barenboim set which I'm quite satisfied with. Whilst I have always enjoyed these works (indeed, this is a very early box set of mine), the works have never spoken to me sufficiently strongly to warrant the purchase of a 2nd set.... although of course that might change in the future.
