At last a guy on this side of the water ordering a done pair from OTA. Are they your own or a pair refurbed by OTA. I have the ruperts. Fran has designed a pair of legs also that might be of interest. There is a german site also that makes them but they are very expensive. Why are you not just taking the ruperts from OTA(price/postage)
Re amp I am sure somebody will be along shortly to advise( I reckon it might struggle with 57's but am no expert and never heard one thru 57's) I use kt88 30w Jadis amp. A few owners with 63's,57's and others use EL34 amps in various guises.
All believe they have it cracked including me so hard to know. If you search around you will find a huge variety of amps regarded as working well with these and ultimately you will have to decide yourself. Welcome aboard and best of luck with the new speakers.

Hi,
I have a spare set similar to the ones that German quad do if you're interested.
SET amps are not the best choice with quads - a smaller push pull tends to perform better. Cheaper too!

Thanks for the replys folks, there are plenty of pairs of Quads on eBay that I could have taken a chance on and then find I need to upgrade this , that and the other so I guess I went with OTA and their reputation could have had them sooner only I wanted the grills sprayed black!..so Christmas comes in the New Year for me, I also have the 63's in the living room...fast running out of space here. Have them attached to Chinese made 'Dared VP20 Integrated / Power Dual Mono Block Amplifier (Push-Pull)' 18 watts
http://www.dared.com.hk/products_mini.html back in the day I bought them straight from the factory in China cheap, on returning a few years later to inquire about another amp I was directed to a dealership in N.Ireland...gone were the bargains! I know you may ask what about warranty and repair etc, so cheap I just took a chance. The other amp I have is Opera Consonance Ref 5.5
http://www.hifiaudiosound.co.uk/amplifi ... point5.htm using 4x300b valves producing 18 watts bought from
http://www.cattylink.com/ Hong kong, think they call this the 'grey market' not a official supplier, amp still working perfect! Carriage ,VAT,import duty kinda shafted some of these bargains now.
Fran send me on a pic of stands harrymacintyre'at'gmail.com, looking something kinda chunky, don't really like those 'spiders legs' stands everyone to there own I suppose, see on thee old eBay you can buy plenty of off cuts of Oak,Ash, Iroko whatever cut to size so that might be an option as I have access to a machine room at work
Once heard the Quads through Graaf mono blocks...life changing or what!
also had the Leak TL 3 attached beautiful....so went on the hunt and bought two of these on ebay one working and one not, the non working one was taken to a petrol station and given a shot of the air line, I mean thick with dust, took home reseated the valves and presto working..now you get my level of electronics!!
...starting to rant here!
Thanks again guys for your input
Happy Christmas and New Year
later

Rant away Chief! As you'll have gathered there's a lot of Quad ESL owners around here using different combinations of amps and sources. Try to get a listen to a many as possible - it's fair to say we're all open to visits from fellow ranting geeks!

Howya dingodog. I'm starting to accept the fact that my Quads will have to go to OTA as some stage so I can see what they're really made of with, you guessed it, my Graaf monoblocks. Fran, if dingodog doesn't fancy your stands I'll finally get off my arse and buy them off you.
Meanwhile I've just discovered that predictive text on my phone writer Pubes instead of Quads, so I'd better stop before this gets embarrassing!
Anyway, welcome to the forum dd.

...Quads at back door when I went out to the bin!, one box slightly damp in corner but everything perfect inside, out of boxes now, acclimatise for a few weeks before I get around to it...now I'm going on the grog for a few days, that work things a curse albeit it pays for the toys!
Take Care

Congratulations Santa came early. Once you get the subs and supertweeters you will be fully sorted!
Mine are OTA done also and it is the way to go.Lucky you as you have a brand new pair that hopefully should last for years.

You asked about amp recomendations .. I have a set of the original quads .. I started with quad 33/303 and moved to naim 32.5/250 and then naim 82/250 but that would be an unusual choice [generally people suggest valves but I am quite happy with the naim setup -- if I had the spare cash I would simply get the naim amps overhauled by naim].
But here is a list of suggestions for amps ...
http://www.quadesl.org/Amplifiers/amplifiers.html
It starts ..
"Amplifiers ..
If there was ever a contentious topic of discussion not directly involved with the Quad electrostatic speaker itself, then this is it. I think I have seen and read more correspondence on the matter of amplifiers than everything but the coating material on the diaphragms ... "

PS the rest of the site is also super

You can also look at ..
