3.1 question... HT

having bought the NAD avr from JFK for two channel TV duty, I now of course keep looking at centre and sub options....

there is a virtual zero budget as all funds are going into the dac/tt pot hifi wise, I'm using diminutive monitor audio speakers as fronts at present and the centre question is one of finding a match for the MA's

when it comes to finding a bargain basement and small sub should I be looking at active or passive?

most of the entry level new kit seems to be active, the NAD has a handy feature in a house featuring babies in that the remote has volume controls for individual channels, so deep thunderous bass can be turned down easily late at night so I'd imagine a passive would be handy, I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to HT, can an active sub be used passively?

any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome...

(I know Fran'll probably have we whipping out the table saw and soldering iron..!!)

Hi , JUst seen this today http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthre ... 434&page=9..

Id go for an active sub as you can always adjust the bass on the Nad or on the Sub itself , it will easily outperform any passive sub ..

Look out for Q acoustics 2070 , or some of the older RELs

You know you will end up getting a full 5.1 set up !!

Cheers
John
