It might sound good, but god does Quad gear look butt ugly!!

I know, I know, looks aren't everything, but I put this to you, who has a better voice, Susan Boyle or Cheryl Cole.............

defence rests!

I assume there is no reply here as the quad boys are in shock at such cheekiness about the best product on earth.
Luciano Pavarotti or JLO. We all know who we would prefer to listen to. Now for other activities there could be a different choice

I must say I'm with Greg on this one.... Now I've not seen '63's in the flesh, but I do find myself looking at my equipment when listening... it is right there in the middle if the soundstage after all!!

It might not be right, but if a choice between two components was marginal I'd go for the handsome one every time....

Sonus Faber vs B&W.....

Jadis vs Naim....

I know which I'd choose

Sonus Faber and Jadis. Easily the best looking speakers and amps for me anyway.

Aaaaand they're off! ;) Haha. I was expecting a reaction sooner.

It's true though, I think that good looking, well built kit sometimes even 'seems' to sound better. If hifi was 'only' about sound, then we would all have expensive circuitry in cheapo boxes! But oh I forgot, a 10mm machined alloy faceplate makes everything sound soooooo much better ;)

Don't tell me!
I used to love the Alectos staring up at me when I was in the chair - replacing them with the Carys (SS, not Valve), was a big come down in looks, despite the milled plate! Mind you they couldn't compare in sound. I usually listen to music with my eyes closed anyway - not sure what that says!

The speakers themselves are definitely an "acquired" taste, but I can't stand the look of the electronics at all. They look like something out of a WWII bunker.

I definitely want my hifi to look good, look expensive, look impressive to audiophiles and non-audiophiles alike. That probably makes me very shallow, but I don't care! There have been times I've borrowed equipment on trial, taken it out of the box and hoped to GOD I didn't like it. Then there are times I've borrowed equipment, taken it out of the box and decided I was buying it no matter what it sounded like. Luckily those Sonus Faber Signums sound lovely too!

I don't think that's shallow at all. Half of the joy of hifi is the feel of quality & pleasantness to look at, well that's just my 2 cents. ihad a laugh about the comment you made about a WWII bunker, you hit the nail on the head there!

Might make an interesting poll, what percentage do forum members place on sound v aesthetics when they are buying/evaluating hifi. We could do a 90/10 to 10/90 options in 10% increments. It would be interesting to see the results! ;) Can the forum handle polls?
