You can get it from Donegal

Ronald O Callaghan
Cinema Tech
St Ernans
Donegal Town
Co Donegal

Web: www.cinematech.ie

Ronald will convert it to muli-region DVD & BR. I bought the 93 a month ago, cost 700 Euro delivered, cheaper than the UK.

Thanks guys,

I spoke to Ronald last week & got a decent price from him & had decided to get one from him when I had rounded up the shillings by selling other equipment. Anyway, in the time being, I did a deal with a friend of mine for other gear I had & he has ordered one from Ronald, I should have it some time this week!

Can't wait to hear it having read all the reviews, I hope it's not a disappointment now!! :)

I'm going to try it in a strange configuration & see what results I get. I'll be routing the 5.1 outputs through my AV8 & on into my Rotel RMB1095, but for 2 channel I'm going to use the balanced 2ch outputs direct to the balanced inputs for the fronts on the Rotel. The Oppo has variable output on the analogue outputs & the latest firmware has been upgraded to make 0.5dB increments in volume instead of the 2dB that it was. So, there's no need for a pre amp at all for 2ch. I'm just not sure if it could cause issues having the two sets of interconnects connected all the time!? I assume the player will sort out 2ch & multichannel to the approptiate outputs 'only' at any given time, depending on the source material.

Sure I'll give it a go & see what happens!

i have an oppo 93, sourced from the uk.

just a word on using the volume control in the oppo, it utilizes the variable digital gain in the dacs, rather than an anaog linear gain. although i haven't tried it myself(mine goes into my marantz av7005 processor), the volume is reported to negatively affect the sound quality below half volume, which is where typical listening volume is at. worth trying for yourself, but just worth keeping that in mind as well

Hi Mossym,

Thanks for the advice. I think the 95 is a completely different animal to the 93 in the analogue section, but you could still be entirely correct about the attenuation being in the digital domain. Fortunately my listening tastes rarely include listening to musinc in the lower half of the volume settings (the joys of living in a bungalow, ha!). I suppose it will definitely be a case of try it & see.

The AV8 is a superb pre though & it does have a direct mode, so 'worst' case scenario, I use the dedicated 2ch outputs to the analogue ins on the AV8 & set it up as a different source. Job done! I've had a good few pre's in my time but I have to say that the AV8 is a standout in terms of musicality. The Rotel RSP1098 couldn't hold a candle to it. I've had a Tag McLaren, a Meridian & a Parasound also, but the Arcam is clearly better all round...........just my 2 cents, everyone to their own & all that!
