Now where to put it all...?

Just a quick question: Is there any reason why corner placement would be a bad idea? I am trying to minimize this setup by integrating the surround with the stereo. I currently has the two systems separate running the stereo down the room either side of the window. Playing across the room with speakers either side of the fireplace, as I have done until recently, limits soundstage depth a great deal. I am trying to reduce the amount of speakers (and thereby saving the marriage) and not block the window too much... Any suggestions are very much appreciated!

Hi Claus, have you tried this arrangement yet? Is it possible to locate the TV and main speakers on the back wall and work from there? Drawing is great by the way.

What software did you use for the room plan. Looks great too!

The software is called planningwiz and is free with email registration. I used TVs as speakers as there are no pics for these (disgrace if I may say so!). ;)
Ken: Do you mean putting the whole system in front of the window? That was my hope as well but the wife thinks it will block out too much light. And it means moving the couch out as a divider between living and dining are. That is why I came up with the corner idea.
If I could sneak the fronts far enough apart, the corner solution would be the neatest I feel. But if it is a disaster in terms of acoustics I wont even go there... :)
If anyone has a great suggestion for a TV bench that would accommodate a centre I am all ears.
Thanks for your help!

Hi Claus, I think your TV and speakers need to be seen as one unit ,and really no point to block the window, you may as well brick it up! So the window is unmovable , as is the fireplace, but I was thinking of the back wall(opposite wall to the window) of the dining area and turning that area into your listening/viewing space. It would take a bit of imagination to rearrange the front part . Could you get away with it?

Thanks for that Claus. By the way, Ken's suggestion seems a sound one, pun intended! I have my own hi fi in front of a window with the speakers either side. But....it is a bay window in the English style and quite wide and high. If I think of something I'll let you know.

Unfortunately that end of the room is our only dining space, and it is out of bounds... :)
I did a setup with listening in front of the window, but I do think it would be a shame to block it even if the TV is put on a lowish bench and that way only blocks 1/3 up and about 3/4 of the center...

How about,
I replaced your dining table with a very majestic version to make the neighbours envious.
Apologies to Mrs Claus.

No problem Claus, I was never cut out to be an interior designer. Good luck with your efforts anyway.
