Dusting off the old turntable.

Post by Frankie Lee »

I'm hopeful that over the next few weeks I might be in a position to spend a few quid on getting my old Rega P3 out of the attic. Bought it many years ago from Cloney but I never used it much as I could never get it set up properly. The sound always seemed to degrade as the needle got nearer to the centre. Thankfully, many moons ago, Fran offered to take a listen to it just to ensure I'm not going mad :) Hopefully I might get a listen to those lovely new speakers he's selling too.

My question to you guys though is this: With a very limited budget (€100–€200), am I better off buying an older amp from the likes of Arcam etc that would include a phono stage; or am I better sticking with my crappy Sony AV amp and buying a phono stage.

My preference would always be for something like the Arcam, if you want quality sound. They go on forever and sound great.
