Good man Claus, thanks for starting this thread.

It was lovely to watch the Danes beat the Dutch.

if our boys in white get past the group stages, it'll be a minor miracle...

frankly, I think you've got a better chance of beating either Italy or Spain...

Yeah, I think England are in the doldrums, (unfortunately) the French are very strong, they may top the group.

We can't afford to lose against the Croats tonight, fingers crossed.

I hope I'll be proven wrong but I dont have huge hopes for Ireland progressing out of the group. Very defensive and organised but they dont have much going forward. For me, its a pitty that the match clashes with the F1 as I'm a bit of a F1 nut and go to several races a year. But I'll still be supporting the team.

In the four Euro/world cups we have qualified for,we have beaten England,Italy and drawn with England,Cameroon in our opening games.
So I have faith that Ireland will do us proud against Croatia tonight.....

I hope you're right.

The Spanish selection for this evening's game is a strange one: 6 midfielders and no striker: they probably hope to tiki-taka the ball into the Italian net. Nobody rates the Italian's: we'll see!

At least the Danish surprise (lucky) win against the Dutch proves that the underdog has a chance in football. Team spirit is very important and that is something Ireland has.

After the first half of Spain - Italy, I am very impressed with the Italians. Spain are trying to run the ball into the goal and Italy are well used to coping with that sort of tactic. Italy are much more direct and have their signature counter. But their not as good against teams like Ireland where they will be expected to be in control....

Dave: I am also a F1 nut. Must have a chat with you regarding races to go to. I want to bring my Dad and brother to one maybe next year... :)

that is one of the principle reasons why I find it a more interesting sport... the underdog never seems to have a prayer of finishing within 20 points of the All Blacks...
