Yes, I was aware that competition was going on. It has become quite a prestigious event. Good luck to the finalists!

I think I read earlier that the concertos will be:
2 x Tchaikovsky 1
1 x Prokofiev 3
1 x Rachmaninov 3

First Tchaikovsky 1 (played by the American finalist by the name of Bernstein) had some very good moments, but I felt the soloist was frequently at odds with the orchestra, and it made for an unsettling effect at times. Very solid effort, but I doubt it will win*.

*I'm always (ALWAYS!) wrong when it comes to picking the winner!

I heard the next competitor's performance of Rachmaninov 3 and thought it was very good indeed, really passionate, but I had to leave it there. As it turns out, he was eventually announced as the winner, so congratulations Nikolay Khozyainov!

Yes, well done Nikolay Khozyainov.
