Newbie to EAC, any advice before I start

Morning all,

I'm thinking I may spend some of the weekend ripping a few CDs to my hard drive, and as advised here I'm going to use EAC. Now, given that I haven't even downloaded it yet and will be ripping from scratch, I'd quite like to get any advice now rather than regret it later! Is there anything I need to know?

Jesus I typed out a guide and it failed to appear on the thread. A bit like copying using EAC. It is hit and miss.
Definitely need the wine to help make it bearable but with that except multiple mistakes.
Make sure you pick an option that keeps the track order as per album if that bothers you. I didnt and had to go back and do it again.
Also you need to watch to make sure the choice you have taken actually occurs next time. Ken was impressed with my basic folder structure!
Very simple really and you will probably do it that way anyway but create folders for each artist if you have multiple albums by same. Makes searching easy. Always copy uncompressed and ensure you do multiple backups.Well at least one anyway.

Cant say enjoy for obvious reasons but maybe include copying while surfing it might make it go quicker or less painfully.

on a more serious note..

I thought the advantage of eac was error correction? I can testify that except for one cd that was drowned in beer by a ginger boxer in the early 90's all of your CDs are scratch free pristine copies...

Does it have other advantages over iTunes?

and on a related note....

does it handle classical track titles and album organisation better??

because for me that is iTunes Achilles heel...

Thank you. I'll download it and have a play around, but it sounds like I may be back with more questions! Good question about the classical tracks. I *detest* that on iTunes.

There's a good bit of set-up involved in installing EAC. It'll want to check your CD-ROM drives: you'll need a CD which is in its database, meaning nearly any CD. It'll check the drives and see what corrections need to be made and tell you which is best for ripping. It takes a while, but it's one time only.

Well, the missus is out tonight, so assuming I can stay awake long enough this might be ideal opportunity.

Simon, to get EAC to use track name etc as I recall it depends on the settings you select on EAC Options/ Filename/ I use %C - %N. %T and this seems to work.
