Peter Tuite: Pianist

I had the immense pleasure of hearing the young Irish pianist Peter Tuite performing this afternoon. Those who know me know of my idiosyncratic reservation regarding solo piano playing. However, Peter Tuite commanded my attention from his first note to his last. He is a consummate musician of very high talent indeed. At the end of his recital he played a Busoni transcription of a JS Bach Chorale Prelude which had the audience transfixed; I do not exaggerate. All that I will add is that if you get a chance to hear this pianist performing then please do so at your earliest convenience; he is an incredible talent.

Lovely post Fergus, and it's a personal relief to see that in this regard, your hitherto icy heart is melting...

When you hear real talent you recognise it instantly Jared. This guy is definitely in a different league altogether!

I've spoken to Peter on several occasions as he's head of keyboard at the RIAM so would be involved in organising masterclasses that I might be involved in. Strange that I've never heard him play, but I'm glad to hear he delivered, Fergus.

I agree with Jared, that is a lovely post, I'm delighted that you enjoyed the recital so much. Your mental block seems to be similar to mine when it comes to the human voice.

we're almost back to Simon's highly entertaining 'music you just don't get' thread from a couple of months ago, aren't we?

I was seriously impressed Simon. It was not merely his technique which was impeccable but his insight and delivery were also beyond reproach.
