Hey

I just got myself a Logitech Squeezebox Touch and have to say that after few tweaks it sounds really good ! :)

I was wondering if anybody else had one and his comments on it?

Reckon you have just opened Pandoras Box there Stephane...you could easily blow away 6 months of your life tweaking the Touch :-).
If you avoid that pitfall is is an excellent piece of kit and it is great if you have a large collection of digital music and by using MusicIP you can rediscover your music collection.
There is a minefield of internet radio stations available for you to discover and there are some good ones available to all music tastes.
Even mp3 tracks at 192 to 220kbs sound very good through it for background listening.

I have mine with upgraded clock, Teddy Pardo power supply, TT3 mods and running through a Young DAC also with Teddy Pardo supply.
Can be very hard to tell the difference sometimes between the Touch setup playing FLAC tracks compared to the JKDAC32 fed the same FLAC tracks from Laptop with Jplay.

If you do get the desire to improve the Touch then the one mod i would recommend is the TT3 toolbox which you can learn about on the Slimdevices forum, but be warned it will take away many hours of good music listening time if you succumb to the temptation.

For now i say just enjoy the Touch and try Radio Paradise.

Hey!

Good to see another Squeezebox guy here ! :)

I have already inserted the TT3 in my SBT, the improvement was really good but now I'm still not at the level of my laptop with jplay so I'd like to know your opinion regarding the next mod.

What's the best next step according to you that would definitely make the difference:
- Upgrading the clocks and few new caps ?

- Getting a new PSU ?

Depends how far you are willing to go Stephane!
For me the Young DAC is good fit with the Touch.

I have the mod you linked to but it only provided a small difference to sound.
All of Soundchecks mods should be used along side TT3, direct connection with CAT6 from the router, network mods, etc.
I do recommend upgrading the PSU though some do not find much of an improvement.

Finally if you have an iPhone or iPad then purchase iPeng for controlling your music now that you have the screen disabled.

Guys, I have a Squeezebox Duet, using WiFi, standard PSU and taking the digital output into my CD Player [via Stereovox XV2 cable and attenuator]. Is it worth the expense of upgrading the PSU? There was a review on TNT-Audio a few weeks ago of a PSU for Squeezebox that is made in Scotland. The reviewer seemed positive enough but the PSU costs as much as the Squeezebox itself! To be honest I am quite happy with the sound as it is [playing FLAC files], it is hard to imagine any improvement on what I consider to be a reasonably decent sound.

Any thoughts on this.....

I had a look at the Touch ToolBox 3.0 site ...

Does anyone know if this works with other Squeezbox models i.e. the Transporter ?

Rocker: I used a upgraded power supply on my SB3 (ie not duet). I could hear a difference on the analogue outputs, but no difference on the S/PDIF at all. Don't know if the duet is the same though (the power supply is 9V I think, the SB3 is 5V)

Thanks Fran. I might try an PSU upgrade if I can get it on a sale or return basis. The digital link between the Squeezebox and the DAC is more important than I thought. I upgraded from a DIY cable to a Sterervox XV2 and the change was considerable. It showed the attenuator in a very good light but even without the attenuator the XV2 was better than the DIY cable with the attenuator.

You may recall that I posted about a DIY isolation support for the Squeezebox some time ago. With the XV2 and attenuator, the Squeezebox on the support: the sound was what I considered overblown in the bass. With the support removed and the Squeezebox on the table, the sound was both overblown and edgy. Fitting three Ceraballs under the support on the table corrected the imbalance. The latter had the effect of removing muddiness in the sound that I was unaware of. When it is gone, you realise it was there all the time. The benefit is that I now can easily hear the song lyrics.

The things we do to improve sound!!!!
