The Steve Jobs story doesn't surprise me either...

It would be great if somebody came out with a slick, user-friendly device targeting sound quality, hi res, etc. I actually think it would be better if it didn't come from Apple, but I'm not too choosy. Maybe Android could use it as a distinguishing feature.

That would be nice alright. Of course a decent set of headphones would be really important too, not huge audiophile things but something that looks smart if it's to appeal to joe public.

The Neil Young article was in the free Dublin Metro newspaper this morning. Plenty of commuters would have read it.

A guy I work with, who on the face of it has no interest in sound quality, just bought a pair of Beats by Dr Dre headphones for €250. The market's there, if only it could be properly harnessed.

I find the whole headphone craze quite hilarious. I am sorry to sound negative, but it is purely a status/fashion statement and nothing else. Why would they need to walk around with these huge audiophile headphones to listen to the 128kb mp3 on their phones?

Neil is great for being proactive and working for things he believes in. I am not convinced we will see any more of this now that Steve is gone....

Yep. It's more a lifestyle product than a piece of hifi. While I do enjoy the various works of the aforementioned Doctor I would never buy headphones with his name on them. I assume those that do buy these endorsed products do so because a famous name is on them?

I think I remember reading somewhere that the designers of the original ipod didnt anticipate that the little white headphones would become fashionable hence why they used it in future advertising/logos and so on, similar to the one below. Loads of variations on it since.

For a laugh, ask the person that you work with about what system he listens to his music at home with..
I could be way of the mark but I'd be very surprised if he spent more on his system than his headphones.

Doesn't have a system. Sitting and listening would be a strange thing for him to do.
