Listening Project Idea

Post by fergus »

I have been considering for some time the feasibility of establishing a thread with something of a difference. Now that we have a few more members actively participating on this Forum it might be the time to put it out there now. What I was thinking of was something along the lines of a Listening Project of the Month or some such thing.

What I had in mind was that one particular work was nominated, in advance, for a particular month. We could all go off and listen to that work at our leisure and come back to report our findings; did we like it or not, why (yes or no), what versions do we have in our collection and which is our favourite and why? If we do not have that particular work in our collection we could then go off and buy it on the basis of what we read if we had a mind to.

I would just like to develop more of a “Club” atmosphere where we can develop our understanding of particular works in this relaxed atmosphere that we have here. I know that everyone here is more than capable of contributing and that everyone also has a lot to contribute. It would be like a bringing together all of our views and opinions on one work in one place and I think that we could all potentially learn a lot from it. The work does not have to be your favourite; in fact it could be the opposite where you are looking for pointers in developing your understanding of the work.

What do we think; would it be a runner? Does anyone have any other ideas along those lines?

I like this idea very much. I'm always looking to expand my horizons, and this would be an excellent motivation. I'm in!

That did not take much persuasion! Let us wait to see what other reactions we get before we proceed any further. I would just like to see if others have a different slant on it or any other ideas of their own.
