The orchestral concert on the same night with Andrew Litton looks pretty interesting too! Not free though :-(

I'll be there: I took advantage of the offers when the season opened and booked lots of concerts back in July. It's a great idea, because it means you actually go to lots of concerts rather than just meaning to go, which is what I used to do! My concerts seemed to be more concentrated in Spring than Autumn, so I have loads coming up. I'm looking forward to hearing the Leningrad Symphony in concert.

Looks like I'll be able to make this after all. Full programme is as follows:
Shostakovich: Passacaglia from Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk
Mozart: Fantasia in F minor K608
J.S. Bach: Passacaglia in C minor BWV 582
I haven't heard the NCH organ in ages, and to be honest I always find it incredibly disappointing, but this is an attractive programme. I absolutely love the Mozart piece, and you already know my feelings on the Passacaglia...

I didn't make it in the end. Did anyone from here go?

No, I didn't go, but I did listen, later on, to a sumptouous performance of the Leningrad on Lyric.

I was at the evening concert,
BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 8 in F, Op. 93
SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 7 in C, Op. 60 'Leningrad'
Andrew Litton conductor
but not the organ concert. I found the Beethoven 8 in the first half pretty disappointing (but then I find I don't get much out of Beethoven symphonies any more these days, whereas I used to absolutely love them) but the Leningrad was stunning, not note-perfect but hugely involving. It was nice to see 10 extra brass taking over the choir balcony, the large percussion section and the orchestral piano, not to mention seeing all the basses and cellos cracking out a great big Bartók pizzicato several times. The famous ostinato in the first movement built up to a hugely powerful climax. I would say this was the loudest music I've ever heard in the NCH.
Exhilarating!
