The best £10 you will ever spend? Possibly!

While awaiting the return of my Chord Solid from the menders, I have been sniffing around for alternatives. I run a Naim CD player but non-Naim equipment elsewhere, so need a DIN>RCA connector - or so I thought.
Wandering the halls of t'internet I saw this, which, for the modest outlay, I thought I would purchase and see what happens - after all, I could always use it on my reel-to-reel if it's not up to much. It's a 5-DIN to RCA conversion plug.

I have to say I am amazed on first listen, although I need to spend more time with it. I plugged it into my Naim player, added some of my VDH RCA ended cables and was truly surprised by the difference. I am not sure if it is wired or solid inside (I might buy another just to take it apart), but it doesn't seem to detract from the VDH. The bass may have lost a little tightness, but this has moved the system up a notch in detail - truly one of those 'lifted veil' moments (all of which is down to the cable, not the plug, I would say). However, with the options that this opens up for RCA>RCA I am very happy with the results. I will update if there is any change with a 'burning in' period and experiment more with my other RCA cables next week.

I have no claim or interest in the company (Milty), other than I might ask them if they would consider doing a locking DIN version :)

Thanks Marcus - I made my own, but still prefer the correct cable termination as it reduces the number of joins. One day I will get around to fitting RCA sockets to my CDI! One day...

Hi Richard,
Agreed. The advantage here is that I can play with, err, I mean extensively test with RCA cables before making a final decision.

Let me know if you add RCA outputs to your player. I've considered that option too, but I would need to find someone to do the work for me, I wouldn't be the greatest with a soldering iron.

I have the skills (ex-electronics engineer) - but not the time or inclination! Problem is, if I take the cover off then I need to also change the smoothing caps and fit a PFM Flea at the same time as the RCAs...and I have been too lazy for last 3 years!
