I was very fortunate to hear Pierre Fournier play the Bach suites in two concerts in 1977. He was of course very old by then and his technique was not what it was in 1961, but his sheer understanding and musicianship were incomparable. In the modern cello he gets my vote over the much more heavy handed Rostropovich or the too precious Yo-Yo Ma.

^^ I did own the Ma... and preferred the Fournier.
this is a beautiful record... and one which touches me deeply, every time I hear it.
