It took me how many years of being like the broken record Seán but I eventually got you there in the end LOL!!!

I know that you have just bought a 9 CD set but one other CD that YOU need is the Gardiner version of Bach's Magnificat just to add to those "big" works.
I agree. I loved it when you played it for me in the car.
Anyway enjoy the box set!
Thanks, I will.

It's hard work for me, I'm afraid.

Agreed, well said.

I'm hoping she'll record the Britten cello suites for the great man's anniversary year.  There's an understated lightness of touch to her playing married with a sense of contemplative grace that I find particularly affecting.  Her version of the Elgar concerto is the polar opposite of Du Pre's - more introspective, not so outwardly expressive but just as powerful in conveying the emotional weight of the piece.
I think in those sentences, you have really nailed the essence and importance of Gastinel as a cellist... someone on CMG put me on to her some 3 or 4 years ago, and this Schumann disk is rather special. I will look out for other recordings in the future. Thanks, Paul.

Reinhold Gliere....he lived 1875-1956 and was probably the last of the Soviet Romantic composers. I would know of him best through his Harp concerto.

Concluding my "Russian" sessions for the moment with this LP....

Admittedly not a great image and the only one that I could find but the album has some really wonderful music on it; wonderful playing and great textures throughout. I was particularly taken with Dumbarton Oaks which is a work that I have not come across before.
