A composer who is never too far away from being frequently listened to is Sibelius. I have just finished this set....

Excellent performances throughout, especially No. 3. The tempo of the central movement is a bit on the fast side for me but the outer movements are really very good.

it's simply YEARS since I last listened to this CD.. Summer 2009 in fact, when I remember Lance from CMG recommending this version to me..

I know that Hummel was primarily a pianist but it really shows with the superlative writing for the piano part in both of these works.

^^ agreed, Fergus. If you're to take out LvB and Schubert from the Late Classical/ Early Romantic cusp, then Hummel was one of the most talented of the rest... LvB admired him greatly. As I've said before, one of his great gifts was to be able to write for diverse selections of instruments and in general, I find his music very joyous and uplifting. For me, he's one of those composers I go back to, to put a smile on my face!

indeed Sean, it IS a fine version, although it is a piece which I really have to be in the right mood for, and only gets an occasional air play these days.
