1. download "Set Timer Resolutoin" to set at 0.5

2. use ntdll.dll's NtSetTimerResolution for programming. i can set it to anything from 0.5 to 1. somehow i can't set it to 1.25 as a random example.

no point setting it at non 0.5 multiples. like 0.785 is bad, the OS is not tuned for such random timer resolution. SQ gets bad.

256/44100 = 5804988. best rounding is 5805. i used to have 58050 thinking 5 digits increase accuracy. since the rounding is so good, 5805 seems better.

256*2*2=1024=MQn's buffer size. so, 5805 is usable according to my ears.

5805 is usable for 640 samples too because 640*4/44100=5805
calc for mqn is 2048/44100, don't know where you got 256 from.

5805 is 5805 hundred nanoseconds so 10 x smaller than 58050, I don't understand how this relates to the system timer, but it seems to affect the SQ.

why not develop your own player JC ? you seem to have the skills.

because it is too difficult. requires listening skills. i don't even understand what a 'correct' soundstage is. lekt seems to know. and sgbk you are a much better coder than me.

256*2*2*2=2048. that's how i got 256.

clockrate is rather undocumented. i am doing guess work here. justifying by listening....

i have tried 5805, 58050, 580500. SQ gets intenser as number gets bigger. in general, they have the same sound signature. for example, a different clock rate like 10000 has a different sound signature.

how is the lekt player ? does it sound best on 10$ earbud headphones played at max volume ? That's the way he used to test MQn. lol.

lekt is focusing on vibration and correct soundstage. it has more vibration than ever.

haha. i think he is joking. maybe he is using a 10-20 year old sennheiser earphones are really good. 10$ was not bad.

2.68 sse2 intel win 8.1 - r2

-sounds really good.

i did too many tweaks this weekend. i no longer know the improvement is MQn or my tweaks. relearning the sound. this is the fun of hifi!!

edited earlier post on clockrate. there is rounding error. best value is either 5804, 5805 or 5806. or may none of these work for you! coz clockrate could be DAC dependent. am still confused by lekt's comment.

I had a chance to listen 8.1-r2 for about 30 min after I upgraded Windows, and there was a very noticeable difference. I am not sure if it was coming from Win 8.1 or MQn, or both, it really didn't matter to me. I haven't even done any major tweaks yet...so more fun on the way, isn't it.

there is an 8 other and 8 no cat version to try as well, I prefer 8 other after a brief listen. Have just found another way to prefetch the data so might be better than current methods.

So which mqncontrol is recommended?

FYI, this is the best player I have ever heard. I have played with everything from Jriver to ulilith/reclock, SAP, MPCHC, Pureplayer, Poobar, Potplayer, XXHE, Monkey, Jplay etc. and more; MQN is incredible. Sounds like the noise floor just drops, music is clean with much less digititis (other than my gear/recording).

As for the different versions. I am enjoying 2.68 8 other cat. Frankly I like every version I've hears so far, some better than others but will need more time to evaluate.
