Just in and Enda's on the box - a golden opportunity to divert my attention to thanking Fran for having us all today. The craic was great and it was brilliant to meet so many likeminded friends! The Quads with either computer or turntable were easily the best of the day by a mile. However the Frugals looked beautifully made but I felt the room was just too big for them;Still the sound they exhibited had, paradoxically, a room filling sound; not my kind of sound but they did show a lot of promise and are very transparent to the amp driving them. But, as I said, they would probably appreciate a smaller room. At least I've heard them (only with cd, mind) and I really wish Fran and Gerry the very best with them; I said to Fergus they would probably suit a diyer better because of their infinite tweekability and if I ever get the urge to do another project then the Frugals would definitely be on the top of my list....Finally thanks to Fran again for the free magazines and to Adrian for digging out a rare Croft amp review from one of them. Thanks :-)

A get together at Fran’s home is normally a cordial, relaxed and very informal affair and today was no exception to this. This atmosphere enables us visitors to be ourselves and to mix in a relaxed atmosphere; that is why they are so successful. So a simple but very big thank you to Fran for his usual standard of hospitality and a very entertaining afternoon.

Thanks to Fran for his hospitality and for simply putting up with all of us! The Frugal Horns looked and sounded amazing, I really like those acrylic shields - a touch of class and unique as far as I know. Very well done to Fran and Gerry.

I ate a weeks ration of biscuits and took away a fair few magazines too. And I heard some interesting music and got my first listen to hi-rez music. A great day and thanks again Fran.

What's this? Looks very impressive!
It is a Gamma Acoustics Rhythm 211 SE integrated amplifier. Kicks out around 10 to 12 WPC and toasts bread too. Sounds great with the Frugal Horns......

Sounds like a good day was had by all. I regret missing out but something important came up at the eleventh hour which forced me to cancel. Hopefully next time.

Another big thank you to Fran for opening up his house and what a place to let loose some decibels.
Company was top class and overall a very relaxed atmosphere.
Always remember coming away from HiFi shows and meet ups frazzled but nothing like that here, already looking forward to the next one!

While the Frugal Horns were very musical and seriously good value the Quads ticked all my boxes, great to hear these in a good sized room.
I have to admit the vinyl sounded excellent and the bass really tightened up compared to the JKDAC32 but i think there is some really good synergy going on with Frans setup as the bass on my ESL63s sounds very good with the B&W PV1 sub.

Great to meet everyone and share some interesting and quality music as well.

Thanks again to you all for travelling - it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves and having a bit of crack.

It's hard to beat the quads alright - many have tried! What's really incredible is that the black pair date from 1959! Just shows you they did know what they were doing! I've taken a few of the comments and ideas re: the frugal horns and will be doing a little work on voicing them a bit more. Watch this space!

Re: the jkdac and vinyl. Really these are 2 different beasts in loads of ways. I meant to record some vinyl in advance in high res, then play back the file after playing the lp. But I never got to do it unfortunately. Do bear in mind that the phonostage I was using there was a very specialised piece of kit, something I don't think you could ever buy commercially and is voiced specifically to suit that amp and tt.

Sorry for this late response.
Cheers Fran. I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

Guys, a real pleasure to meet up with y'all and put faces to the names.
And some of your music is OK too ! :-]]]]]

I suppose someday I will bite the bullet and get into that PC music.
But right now I've fallen into the time poverty trap.

Some encouraging reactions to the Frugel Horns. Thanks.
Would love to garner any constructive or objective comments from anybody who listened to them.
Relative to sound especially and anything else that crosses your mind.

Many Thanks again Fran.
