Palestrina is undoubtedly one of my particular favourite Early Music composers for simple, pure and beautiful melodic lines and harmonies.
Fergus, that music is, I fear, way outside my comfort zone.
That's a very great shame, Sean because I agree completely with Fergus' comments on Palestrina's abilities. That said, it is most refreshing to see someone admit to not appreciating something without other forum members jumping on them and saying 'you're not trying hard enough!'. I simply don't think we were all meant to appreciate or understand absolutely everything within the classical repertoire.

Perhaps in time Seán. It is very beautiful music particularly when sung by a quality ensemble like the Tallis Scholars.

A very underrated composer is Schubert methinks.

there's a particularly fighty and argumentative hifi forum in the UK called hifiwigwam

to say they'd fight with their own toenails would be an understatement, in fact they fight about the amount of fighting, it can be quite an entertaining read!

^^ yes, I see.... I think forums relating to music and technology have a tendency to attract members of an erm... 'dogmatic' persuasion...
