Just for the record, no carries were allowed as she herself would not hear of it! It would have damaged her pride. She did consent to sit on my lap at the summit however....because she was cold!!!

In memory of Sir Colin Davis. Last time I heard him was at Avery Fisher Hall in New York, he accompanied Nikolaj Znaider in the Elgar concerto as in this recording but with the NY Philharmonic. Unforgettable.

Double Dvorak; first up the wonderful Cello Concerto....





....followed by the equally wonderful but not so well known Violin Concerto....






Claus: The second item on the Dvorak Cello Concerto album above is a work by Bruch called Kol Nidrei. As you really liked Bruch's Violin Concerto you should also like Kol Nidrei if you are not already familiar with it. It is a beautiful, lyrical work not unlike the Violin Concerto but with the added warmth of the lower registers of the cello.

Some more Elgar from Sir Colin Davis. This is a terrific performance of the 1st Symphony, even more thrilling than the one with the LSO. Maybe because the work was rather new for the great East German orchestra, or maybe Sir Colin was more attentive to them because of the unfamiliarity, but this is a regal performance that should be better known.
