Hi Dermot,

Sorry for the delay in replying, currently busy at trying to get things done around the place with out getting too distracted!!

I mainly go to Tower Records when I pay a visit to Dublin every now and again. I did order from Boomkat a few times but with the exchange rate going against the euro I find it is sometimes cheeper to buy in Tower. Unless of course you are after specialist stuff on Vinyl then Boomkat is best.

Fergus, yep you got the right CD there, I must listen to it again soon.

Thanks for taking the time Adrian :) By the way did you get the limited edition box set of Plays the Piano? This version, which is cheap enough on Amazon, features another disc of music! See below...

Amazon review:
This deluxe edition is the one to buy, as it also contains a new Ryuichi Sakamoto album called "Out of Noise" which on its own is an outstanding record - quite why it's tucked away as a "bonus" disc here I really couldn't say.

Anyway, disc 1 "Playing the Piano" is what Sakamoto calls his album of "self-covers" done on the piano. The mood is dark, sad, winter melancholy. It's difficult to believe that just one instrument is used throughout - such is the depth of emotion on the LP.

The aforementioned disc 2 "Out of Noise" has, for the most part, a similar mood, although brings in additional instruments and treatments. It's up there with, if not better than, the best works of Brian Eno, Eric Serra and John Beltran. A classic, in fact.

Great to have you here Fergus :) I'd say that particular album gets forgotten about.....It's not bad either. Must give it a listen later. By the way does yours come with the 12" eight page photo montage and career overview on the back....

It does Dermot and I was only comparing the vinyl and the CD presentation booklets earlier today when I was doing an A/B sound test between the two media!

Wow! That's uncanny! How did the comparison go? I had a quick listen to it myself just there now and I was surprised with the excellent sound achieved. I never liked the Arista 'sound'. It always sounded distinctly 'flat'! I've only got as far as the piano piece over on side two. Then I recalled that the last track reminded me of of his score for 1492 which I think came later! Not sure if it was this particular Lp. Can't wait to find out later :) It's great to be listening to Van the Man again :) Sometimes I get so embroiled with all the latest stuff I tend to forget the old masters! At least I still have them :)

Edit: I've just listened to the last track on Direct and it's actually the last track on The City Lp (Processions) that reminds me of 1492....
