I am in agreement with you there Jared but the challange for me is to find a cycle that will really sell the music to me. I think that Grumiaux did a great job and I really like his versions but I also wanted a modern Period Performance version of these works and if Bruggen and Zehetmair cannot do a good job then I will completely forget about these pieces.Jared wrote:A most interesting purchase; please let us know your thoughts in due course. Personally, I already own the Grumiaux & Mutter recordings (not a universal fan of Mutter's as you know, but she has always been a good Mozart interpreter), and I'm not sure whether the VCs themselves (all earlyish works of course) are interesting enough in themselves, for me to wish to invest in further sets... :-/fergus wrote:
LOL....the revolving door system of classical music collecting!!Jared wrote:Like I said Gents, anything except temptation....
picked up for a rather tasty price on Ebay, that's one more space made available on my Amazon wish list, which is starting to resemble the British prison system... one in, one out (to make room!)
I am really looking forward to read what you come up with for that session!Jared wrote:^^ within due course, I am thinking of having a few weeks of themed 'Handel & Haydn Choral Works' ... I'm just making some preparations... ;-)
