Sean, it really is a stellar set... not a bad performance, and v high quality recording... I'd heartily recommend, along with the Pletnev set on DG...

If you managed to get it on Spotify I would be curious to know what you thought of it Don. It is "light" music but something a little bit different and unusual. The minimal forces really clear out the textures and let the solo instrument line be heard very clearly. I like it I must say.

I did find it Fergus, same recording along with some Keyboard/Organ concerti too. I enjoy concerti for some of the more unique instruments of the time, mandolin, Viola da Gamba, Baryton, Lira etc. These are certainly different and enjoyable.

Glad you enjoyed it Don. I have some of the baryton music in my collection but I have not listened to it in a long time....must do so soon!

Laló´s Le Roi d´Ys is a lovely opera, I can´t understand why it´s not performed more often. This is still the only studio recording, and a very good one it is. Recorded as far back as 1984, Barbara Hendricks and Delores Ziegler are in great voice, so it´s a pity that the tenor, who has the best known aria in the opera is mediocre at best. If ERATO had hired someone like Alfredo Kraus or Alain Vanzo this lovely recording could have sold easily 3 times as many. But those who only know Laló for his Rapsodie Espagnole should investigate this tuneful and well written opera.
