Scroll down about halfway - no details on the USB card other than it has "low jitter" TCXO (no spec) & transformer on output?? I suspect the transformer is the main improvement as I suspect that it may reduce common mode noise (CM noise) but no specs given for the transformer either.

Edit: Hold on - down near the end of the loooong page there is a USB3 card??

interesting how much is the usb3 card?
edit: $169 +del + customs
its obviously a mod of non expensive parts, i wouldn't know where to start to do something like that
his mods make a bit of sense some of them would definitely be worth trying

John were did you get the idea that I was going to run out and buy one of those USB cards? I am finding it hard to move beyond the maplin supply for the linear. Thanks for holding me back anyway.

I thought we had linked that thread from Mr Paul awhile back. Are we now progressing through these mods? If John buys the PPA usb cable I will consider getting the USB card.

After going through the PPA thread again I think I will buy a cd player I cant take it any more. It looks like I will have 2 to 3 linear power supplies for the music pc and maybe a battery supply as well. Lord knows how many supplies will be needed for the control pc when we come to that.

Just in case, Tony
BTW, Pearse already has the PPA USB cable

Only joking John I know how you feel about that cable.

On a serious note the options on his site may work but it is going to cost the earth to get there. I think you were right awhile back when suggesting one step at a time. Maybe at some point we can try using all our supplies on one zuma and see what happens. Maybe if we have another meet up at some point we assemble the best of what we have currently to see what really works. Ken has a PPA sata cable,Pearse has usb cable and teddy pardo actually Pearse has a lot of the stuff!. If we accumulate some of the other stuff over the next while is it worthwhile to have a go at temporary assembly of the best of all parts into one machine and compare to 'normal' zuma.

I am going to have another look at the itemaudio linear supply priced at £199. I think it has 3 rails.I believe this means the power is separated out in the unit due to this?? Is this an advantage? It is alternative to Teddy Pardo and maplins. Also waiting to see what Larry from plex comes up with.At best it will be another linear supply coupled to a 'audio grade' board that replaces the pico.

Would a cheaper trick be to buy 3 maplin 4a linear supplies and supply the various components separately? Not sure is this easy to do? Take it requires a Nige,Fran or Ken to wire it up correctly

the problem is with most of these audio parts, it that you cant hear there improvements before you buy them, its blind faith/or relative risk.

there would be no point in all of us going out and buying teddy pardos/ppa audio usb3/ item-audio trilinear supply, all we need is one of each for testing then the rest of us can get what we feel is justified

maybe we should make a list of the things we want to try and/or buy, so we dont get the same stuff till we get testing

my next bit of testing is probably going to be separate linear supplies to Motherboard(pico) 12v, cpu 12v, and usb 5v

Fran is it possible to screw a maplin ps down to 5v?
would it be a bad idea to daisy chain this 5v to the 2 usb3 sticks?
Maybe the 5v would be better on battery or wall wart?

Parts finally arrived so all aboard now except the case and pico. Still have to make a call on whether to return or hold the maplin. Will have to go and figure out how to do the windows 8 on a non wtg stick shortly that should be fun. Funny feeling the plex case will be longer than the 10th of may coming back into stock.

Some serious PC building going on here with the top section a Linear PSU built by a guy in Bulgaria I think!

i find waiting for stuff to come back in stock very stressful especially when enthusiastic about the project, i usually cave in and look for alternatives

exact same as pearses case: http://www.komplett.ie/komplett/product ... tails.aspx

you should probably wait til the 10th though if you set on the hdplex

i added some photos of the usb3 pcie card and a usb3 adapter (Prototype 1) to add in a clean power supply +5v to usb
