My 2 favourite current Wagner tenors, and they are as different from each other as they could possibly be.
Kaufmann has the darker, more baritonal voice, Vogt the most lyrical, both are formidable.
I´m not too happy with Kaufmann decision to sing the Wesendonck-Lieder, these songs were meant for a soprano, but in his own terms he sings them well.
Many items are repeated in both recordings, and to compare 2 such different and interesting singers makes for fascinating listening.
Tomorrow should arrive the Kaufmann/Gergiev Die Walküre.

Those piano trios are really lovely. I have always felt that it is such a pity that Beethoven did not write more chamber music.

agreed Fergus... his Piano Trios are particularly delightful, especially the later ones. I think it's a shame he abandoned the String Trio format later in his career, because the Op. 3,8 & 9's are real growers... I have been revisiting those too.

All the more strange Fergus, since in all the Wagner roles he sings, the tenor is the hero or the good guy.
But DECCA has always been "peculiar" with their opera covers, at least they didn´t portray him as Uncle Fester.

^^ at the risk of sounding slightly controvertial, I can't imagine that cover going down particularly well in present day Dublin...
