I have high hopes for this one. A 5CD set featuring Jordi Savall, Ton Koopman and Christopher Coin.

A nice selection, Dave. I think you'll particularly enjoy the Marais box. I bought it on its release a number of months back and thoroughly enjoyed it. Savall, of course, owns this repertoire and the only person who can challenge him on the viola da gamba (in my opinion) is Paolo Pandolfo, whose recordings of the Bach Cello Suites (available on the Glossa label) on this instrument I cannot recommend too highly. Deeply poetic and ruminative performances which will have you reaching for the Repeat button on your CD player.

Good morning folks!

This is the latest batch to take up residence on the infamous 'To be listened to' shelf:

I must admit, I'm really quite looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into these... the Pergolesi collection from Abbado comes as a 3CD set in an absolutely stunning bound 100 page hardback booklet... one of the most beautifully presented products I have seen in a while, and makes you wonder why youngsters are happy with downloading MP3s, rather than having the real thing in their hands...

nice one Jared.
I have the William Byrd one on vinyl and it really is a lovely piece of music. Let us know what you think of the Biber ones as I'm looking to get some of his works at some point.

thanks Dave... at present, I only have the one Biber, and it's without doubt one of the finest pieces of music in my collection: Period:

if you don't own this, please do yourself a favour and buy it yesterday!

I realise very few of his works are as large scale as this, but I have certaily been interested in expanding my knowledge of his music for a while... and McCreesh is a wonderful exponent.

Yeah, the Byrd is a no-brainer really, isn't it? It's been on the shopping list for well over a year to be fair, as the only Byrd I have is on the BBC disks I own from the magazine... I was finally spurred on, after purchasing the Tallis Scholar's Tallis: Lamentations, and I know its a purchase I won't regret.
