Sorry about the oversized picture but it was the only one I found.
I´m very proud of this cd. You may remember I told you about the up and coming Mexican tenor Javier Camarena. He has just sung La Sonnambula and La Cenerentola at the MET to tumultuous acclaim. In fact the MET let him do an encore of his cabaletta in La Cenerentola, an honor only granted before to Luciano Pavarotti and Juan Diego Florez in the past 70 years. In case you are wondering why the MET prohibits encores it´s because they have to pay overtime to the dozens of unions that work there, so even a 4 minutes encore can cost the MET thousands of dollars.
Well, I´m proud of this cd because I talked Javier into making his first cd recordings for my sister-in-law´s label Urtext. The songs included in this cd were recorded between 2011 and 2013 at 3 different venues, but you will never know from the sound quality, the different acoustics are smoothly managed. But most important you hear a tenor voice of rare quality, his voice is warmer and bigger than Flórez´ and he can also sing any number of high C´s and D´s you care to mention. He has some of Pavarotti´s charisma, he is an immensely likable performer, and already is an idol at the MET. On dvd you can see him in Rossini´s Otello and Le Comte Ory next to Cecilia Bartoli, he is also singing La Cenerentola with her this summer at the Salzburg Festival. And just before that he will return to Mexico City to record his first arias album for Urtext. So, you see, I´m very proud and happy :-)

Hi Pepe, what a lovely, heartwarming story, well done, I am delighted for you and your sister-in-law. You do have a very talented family, music is obviously of great importance in the Echenique households.

Thank you Seàn, I am indeed very proud of our collaboration with Javier. I knew he was going to be an important tenor, but not even I anticipated that he was going to be this BIG. Right now he is the number 1 lyric tenor in the World, as simple as that.
My sister in law Marisa with Javier in New York just yesterday.
In his T shirt you can read: A darleeeeee! That´s his favorite motto, it means: Let´s goooooo for it!!!
(And he certainly did).

I was only too sad I couldn´t go to that already historical Cenerentola with Joyce DiDonato and Javier. Not since the times of Teresa Berganza there´s been a Cinderella like DiDonato, and Camarena singing those high C´s as if there was no tomorrow <sigh>
