yup, the search goes on. 2.67 gets 1 cache line instead of 2, therefore has twice as many loops - 128 instead of 64, is that what affects the sound ?
just to be sure i actually very slightly preferred 2.67 sse4 v1 very slightly more detail/less noise

did i get it wrong?

I don't know for how long you listened to 2.67, and what kind of music, but I found that sound is slightly distorted, especially bad recordings like My Generation by Who.
When I started with 2.67 (V1 or V2), it was wow, but more I listen to it less I liked it. So, I decided to hear some bad recording, and I found it was completely unnatural.
So, I went back to 2.59, and after 2.59 to 2.66 V2. They were way more musical and natural presentation. When I listen 2.66 V2 I just don't want to stop listening.

ok will recheck on poorer recordings

tested with Oscar Peterson Trio – You Look Good To Me, My One and Only Love
seemed to be more detail with the piano more fluid

Still refusing to bother with 2.67 as 2.66 v2 is so good.

I can't believe it that we could got better bass then V3!!
This (baby talk) version is huge improvement in every aspect. Not just different, but the best one so far and the most complete.
Wow....
Thanks man!

-2.67 sse4 v1 > 2.67 sse4 v2. uncontested winner.
-2.66 sse4 v3 is very revealing but bright.
-2.67 sse4 v1 is very revealing but lacks musicality. a little dry. reminds me of HQPlayer, which is much dryer and not revealing at all (but has good focus and simple stage. HQPlayer was my good old favorite now abandoned)
-2.66 sse4 v2 has good musicality. lacks weight/texture/depth/power. maybe too smooth? the most polite version. tiring after a while.
-2.66 sse2 intel dqa dqa. good and all that... lacks a little of this and that... am not yet a fan of sse2.
-however, sse2 tends to have a better layer of bass. clearer and not dirty and usually feels very correct. however, stage is not full and powerful. but can be compensated by louder volume. not sure good or bad.... after thinking about it. i do like sse2 lol.
-sse4 tends to be brighter with less texture. sse4 often has brightness issues. sse4 is smoother, more airy, less earaches.

2.66 sse2 intel dqa dqa >>> 2.66 V2 > 2.66 V3 >...........> whatever else
2.66 sse2 intel dqa dqa brings "analog spirit" back!!!
