Great reports coming back from the meet-up. Sorry I missed it but I signed up to Twitter this morning & checked it all day for some tweets from the meeting. What gives? Are you guys luddites or something :)?

Glad the JKDAC32 impressed. I agree with Adrian - from my past listening to Fran's Vinyl set-up on the Quads, it is just more juicy & full-bodied. But remember that Vinyl system is a hell of a lot more costly than the JKDAC & I would contend that it sounds even better than the dCs system which would be in a comparable price range (if Fran paid retail prices for his vinyl kit :)) It's a wonderful testament to Fran's skills that he has such high-end sound from his DIY endeavours.

I really wanted to hear his Frugal Horns but hopefully I can do that soon - they sound very impressive & a steal for the money.

As someone said we have a very fecund forum :)

Sorry I missed this lads. While you were listening to the soothing tones of Fran's systems I was listening to the screams of a baby who won't be persuaded that bottle can be as good as draught! Oh well, I'd the little Leben here to keep me company.

JK, who are you on Twitter? I'm @enchamade.

A big thanks to Fran for a great afternoon and good to meet everybody. The Frugal Horns were very impressive and the JKDAC32 was superb. When does it start touring, John? Overall great sound.

Many thanks to Fran's generosity for the meeting today. It was very interesting for a first timer to see the range of gear (toys) at work. Also to meet 'the gang' ....very welcoming and relaxed!!
The F Horns sounded impressive at the price range, and the jkdac also excellent in the Quad room.
Some good music too. !

A babies cry will outperform any tweeter known to man - it has a ultrasonic edge to it & can't be locked away :). Run now while your hearing is still intact :)

Nah, I was only joking but I'll probably give it a go soon just to see what it's all about - I have a jaundiced view of it before I start however & this meeting is the only possible advantage I could see in it's use & even then I'm dubious.

Wow, Frugal Horns look fantastic in that vinyl wrap & that clear baffle. Fran, you should offer an extra service - a family crest imprint on that baffle :)

I wasn't sure that there was enough interest but I'll start a new thread on this to gauge this.

Si - its a 211 SET amp - big monster with a ballsy sound to match. Also doubles as a room heater (seriously).

Thanks to all for coming - some from very far away. It was indeed a very enjoyable afternoon and both the music and chat was great. Like a few have mentioned, its great to put some faces to names!

Sligolad/Claus - many thanks for bringing both the JKdacs. In the end I didn't get to compare both flavours, which was a pity. Likewise, I didn't get to compare the different versions of jplay either. However, any time I went into that room for a listen, the sound was great (apart from the bass bloom in there).

Thanks also for the kind comments on the frugal horns. Exactly what I expected came true - each time we changed the amp, there was a distinct change in the sound in the room. Thanks also to Rocker for bringing the big musical fidelity amp - it was good to hear a big solid state beast with them as well. Personally I really like the sound of the little EL84 amp, it gives a more open sound with a bigger soundstage, but I know many there liked the 211 amp too. Probably all down to personal preferences.

A word to thanks again to you all for all the goodies you brought!! Jaysus, its less cake & wine I need around me!!!

Fran

John - there might be more interest after today seeing how good the sound was from it!!
