This rewrite works for me on 2012 R2 in minimal mode (RAMOS) however not with all files. I have an album of which all files will rewrite ok but not one track :) go figure.

As to 104/86/226 it has a bit grainy and aggressive top end also decay is cut short in compare to best versions, depth is congested, mixing plans. Bass is good, resolution is good. I mean very good.

Cheers and thank you for bringing constantly new versions.

Regarding the feedback I recognized here:

You may check if you have enough RAM left available for the rewriting. Keep in mind that Gordon might need more RAM than the file size because of double or several writing of files with his software? The RAM might be to much fragmented for bigger files as you need followed 4k blocks?

Seb, you might get an idea about that as some files work for you, others not. Are the smaller ones working?

Take care
Thomas

Thanks Thomas for the ideas but it is just a particular file. I can do whole album at once but it will stop at this track. If you do this track only it will not be done. The rewrite does not want to cooperate with it.

If Gordon is interested I can send him this track (or anybody else for that matter).

Cheers

Hi

New here, so firstly thanks to Gordon for all his efforts in the past to get to what we have today. I've been following developments since the very early days but was always a few steps behind everyone else so had nothing to contribute to the discussion. Also a big thanks to everyone else who's helped with listening and feedback. A truly great example of forums working properly.

I'm running Win 10 on non haswell cpu and have managed to get the recent versions working without any problem (up to 99/84/224). For anyone who was stuck for a while while mqn went down the haswell only journey, jump back in, its worth it.

Unfortunately the latest 104/96/226 isn't working for me, simply not playing. Are they to be used as a set or can I mix and match to find out which file is causing the problem ?

Rewrite has been working well with good sound improvement, but I also get weird behaviour. Odd tracks didn't copy and play properly, file size was much smaller than original. But that seems to have fixed itself now! Smal issue now with rewrite 21 is that it doesn't copy to the out folder and just leaves the test.wav file in mqnrewrite folder. Message in cmd is The system cannot find the file specified, then rewrite complete. All I did was to delete old version and paste new version into the folder.

think there is a problem with some file sizes not being aligned, though haven't come across this myself. Sebna if you can pm me a dropbox link I'll have a look.

The latest issue is related to a characteristic of the disk the wav file is stored on, it's being read in at 512 bytes at a time which seems too small for some.

previous version lost too much treble and sounded unnatural. Have uploaded 105/87/227 and rewrite v22.

105/87/227 Not working for me on non haswell (i5 3427U). Last working version was 99/84/224. Rewrite v22 works ok.

All versions are for haswell only, IIRC.

sbgk wrote:there were 2 incorrect settings, so have uploaded a new set of files.

all the files required for MQn are in mqninstall.zip

uploaded control v97, loader v82 and play v224. Also rewrite v14.

control v99, loader v84 and rewrite v15 use sse4 instructions rather than avx, think there's better detail with these.
99/84 was SSE4 so worked on non haswell but latest versions may have moved back to haswell only.

The combo of old loader v84 with the newest control v105 and play v227 works like a dream on my AMD CPU (does have avx, but not avx2) Both the older and newer loaders don't work on my system.

I still have the problem with mqnplay of not stoping at the end of the song!
If I don't manually stop it in task manager now it freeze my PC.

Any ideas or tips how to solve this problem?

Thanks,
Adam
