what usb device do you have ?

have uploaded a win 8.1 version of the loader v63, don't know if makes a difference.

are you sure you have the correct loader file ? would expect control to fail as well as it uses the same code.
8.1 version v63 works! BUT command window still disappears immediately. So I can't press 'x' to exit. I have to stop the music using task manager...

I have IFI iDAC2... all other audio options have been disabled.
That's how it works nowadays, best to create a batch file that will kill all mqn processes.

After such a long absence it is best to do some reading of older posts and try to catch up.

uploaded 210/83/65, was unsure about a security setting and read today MS recommendation is to use the minimum, so that's what I did, previous version's in archive. A bit more emphasis in the bass with this one.

turned out previous version was better, but found another setting which was incorrect and removing it has improved things.

uploaded 215/87/68, McCoy Tyner sounds quite intoxicating with this version.

Right think that's all the settings finalised, so shall leave it there.

Thanks, have no plans to change it. Hopefully 24/96 over the weekend.

215/87/68 is the final version for now.

yes, I know, 87/68 sounded a bit soft though the setting is correct. So having the setting in 88/69 sounds better, but is not required from the thread running perspective, sounds punchier and more defined for whatever reason. My ears haven't been reliable this week, sometimes think it's too bright, then too soft. Think 88/69 is more correct sound, I just lost interest when listening to 87/68.

play already has the setting because it needs it to work. So control and loader having it and affecting the sound means that the sound signature is being stored in the data in shared memory in some way.

Keep meaning to write a file copier that makes wav files sound worse and then seeing if anything can recover the sound quality. May not work, but it seems to affect the data in memory and BHE Rewrite purportedly affects the sq.

uploaded play 216 which uses an old instruction and therefore doesn't need the setting to work, so if you like the sound of 87/68 then 216 will give you more of it, seems to require the volume to be turned up.

or maybe 215/87/68 combination is optimal.

217/70/89 is sounding very good on string quartets, piano and double bass.

tried to simplify the install

download mqn haswell.zip

extract the files to c:\musicplayer

if you use another directory change the directory in mqn.bat

@echo off

cd c:\musicplayer

Title MQn - Just good music

then double click setupmqnparam.bat and close the window manually

decide which version of mqnplay is required win 10 or w2012 r2 (also works for win 8.1)

rename the selected mqnplay.exe and mqnloader.exe and mqncontrol.exe files so the description suffix is removed

select wav files/copy to clipboard and double click mqn.bat to play the music

more details on how to play non wav files here

added a setting back in and found a new one. First one was related to how the file/device uses cache and the second was access control to the device.

quite an enjoyable sound, bit extra sparkle over previous versions.

v71/90 cure a slight bloat to the sound, file permissions again.
