Indeed you're right... and I think Fergus said he'd got about 300 LPs, if my memory serves me right...

Seán is quite correct Jared. These are strong performances but never bombastic. Bernstein is also very careful with the melodic content of Brahms’ music which is so important.

and growing too, I see. I am twice as modest as you as I have approximately 700 (mainly Jazz) LPs.

One of the most important harpsichord recitals of the last few years has been Christophe Rousset's magisterial performances of his favourite pieces by Louis Couperin. Rousset can be impish and expressive as well as thoughtful and rhythmically precise as the music demands. The result is a profoundly rewarding performance that rewards careful and attentive listening. In comparison with his nephew, Francois, Louis' music has been relatively under-recorded, which is a shame. Listening to Rousset playing this music reminds me of Blandine Rannou's performance of Jean-Baptiste Forqueray's neglected harpsichord works for Zig Zag from a few years back. Both are master musicians from different generations making the strongest possible representation for under-appreciated music. Rousset's performance is matched by the recording, which is detailed yet sufficiently warm and airy. Nobody else working today can balance a harpsichord like Nicolas Bartholomee.
