Any suggestions for 5v battery PS for my SSD, beside the two A123's batteries running on 2.5v?

Check to see if it works at 3.3v first but I'd doubt it

Wonder if you could open one up, and "convert" it to run on 3.3v?

That would be excellent, but I believe that the voltage droped last time from 5v and on one SSD I lost all my files and the other one is still suffering from PTSD!

Anyone already tried that? :)

Looks like it maters how clean the power came into the battery, or I'm mistaken?!

Appears that JCAT rebadges the Bakoon PS
http://www.bakoonproducts.com/product/bps-02/

The bakoon specs say li ion battery, so that may be why it cares about the quality of the charger power.

But, they are dual batteries and automatically output switch to the charged one and disconnect from the charger, while the other one is charging.....right?
If that is the case, I still don't understand how the charger can make a difference, if is totally disconnected (or maybe isn't)?!

a dirty ps will infect batteries to a certain extent
mediocre linear ones are ok
but the world is full of bad ones so a little selection is required

i think what killed/disabled your ssd was a short of some sort
too low of voltage wouldnt do it

i had tried to 3.3v a ssd before but didnt work
there will be different variations and in theory 3.3v is sufficient

To reinforce what Nigel said, a dirty power supply can introduce noise into your system, even if it's charging the disconnected battery.

In regards to 3.3V and SSDs, I'm fairly certain that SSDs have linear (or switching) regulators inside that convert the 5V to lower voltages, 3.3V and maybe lower. I did a quick search for flash datasheets, and checked a spansion flash, it runs on 3.3V. But it has a separate IO voltage, so it can support interfacing at lower voltages if required.

So a SSD won't work if you feed 3.3V to a 3.3V reg, but it might be possible to bypass the 3.3V reg.
