Completely... when it comes to Mozart, I'd also add Pires, Anda, Barenboim and especially Clifford Curzon to that list... if you ever feel so inclined Pepe, have a listen to this disk:

I only mentioned a few out of a legion Jared. Of course Curzon was a master Mozartian of the first order, and I have all of his Mozart recordings. Geza Anda, Maria Joao Pires and especially Daniel Baremboim who has played and conducted Mozart all his life shouldn´t be forgotten. Even some pianists who aren´t directly thought of as Mozart specialists had a big affection for him, notably Arthur Rubinstein who declared that "9 notes of Mozart move more than the 9 symphonies of Beethoven".

I'm quite sure this is the case. I have a soft spot for CC in this repertoire, because after I had been listening to CM for maybe 6-9 months, I came into possession of recording of his of PC Nos 21 & 23, he performed with the BBC Symph in the early 60's, which really helped Mozart's piano works click for me.. it was quite a revelatory moment, personally. I also like his Brahms PCs which have been re-issued by Decca a couple of years ago.

it will take a few more listens to properly evaluate baceuse it's only had 2 listens, and as you know, much 20th Century music is not something I find easily to assimilate or comprehend.

I'm back on my Haydn SQs at present... safer and certainly highly pleasurable ground !

I have to admit that the more that I play that Alkan LP the more I am coming to like the music.

Then definitely back to my comfort zone with....





....a really lovely album that always makes me smile with delight!

The past two weeks my daily listening habits have alternated between Bach and Mahler's Ninth and back to Bach; today was no exception:

the next batch of CDs have come to the surface on my 'to be listened to' shelf, having had the dust blown off the top and been checked to make sure the disks haven't rotted away in their cases since I first bought them... :-//

Sources I have read say that The Sixteen's excellent reputation was founded on two cornerstones of choral repertoire; the first having been the 5CD set 'The Eton Choirbook', which I enjoyed last winter. The other, are the six disks representing the (more or less) complete works of John Taverner, which have been re-issued by Hyperion on their budget 'helios' label. I can't tell you how much I have been looking forward to listening to these, as I know I'm goijng to be in for an utterly sublime treat... Fergus, am I right in believing you also own some of these disks?













I feel that this disks, along with the Haydn SQs and miscellaneous others I have on the go at present, will keep me out of mischief for the rest of this month, so these may be the last of the new album covers I will post for a while... an opportunity to luxuriate in this rich repertoire is for me, a great pleasure and privilege indeed.

However, I have added a 7th disk to this collection (as you may have noticed, I usually do these things in 7's) which I heard was very beautiful. This disk is on now, and believe me it really is:



I am a happy man indeed!!!

Great stuff, Jared. I only have Corona Spinea, but it is lovely music indeed.
