Still remembering D F-D:

Have you noticed that The Irish Times has not so far mentioned his passing in print or online? By contrast they reported the deaths of Donna Summer and Robin Gibb immediately.

For comparison, "The Guardian" carried a report of Fischer-Dieskau's death on Saturday, the day after he died, together with a reaction from the tenor Ian Bostridge and a long obituary by the noted vocal critic Alan Blyth. This latter had clearly been ready for some time: Alan Blyth died in 2007. On the same day "The Irish Times" had an obituary of Donna Summer. Priorities!

Yes I have. But who, in the Irish Times (paper of record), could pen an article on DFD? Arminta Wallace, Dervan or Eileen Battersby perhaps? The IT does not have a writer capable of writing an article to do the man justice nor can RTE ("supporting the arts") deliver a suitable programme in celebration of his life either.

I'll get off my soap box now, sorry!

Bach – Goldberg Variations:

I enjoyed this performance of the Goldberg variations. I felt that they were played with great artistry and sensitivity as indeed was the whole set. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to Schiff in this music.
