Andreas Hammerschmidt was a Bohemian composer born in 1612. His father was a protestant Saxon though, and had to flee Bohemia during the Thirty Years War. He probably was the most notable North German composer between Schütz and Buxtehude, and in fact his music can be seen as a bridge between them.
In this cd we get some instrumental pieces and motets in the mid-XVII Century concertato style. The performances are exquisite, with particularly breathtaking singing from the Knabenchor Hannover.

I believe he has actually played in rock bands (before he saw the light)!

It's on vinyl yes. A really great performance and the recording sounds magnificent too.
