MQN
Re: MQN
avx2 and normal on 67 and 68 working fine for me. 68normal has a slightly softer gentler tone. 68avx2 is more edgy(detailed). Will have to hear Nigel's set up at some point to see what extra detail is missing. Just trying out Bueno Vista Social Club on hires and level of detail on normal is ample. Thanks Gordon not sure how much time is involved creating multiple versions but great to be able to try out a range.

Back when we cMP'ers were working to minimize XP we first discovered RESOURCE HACKER where you could eliminate effluvia from the files. Since none of us had any idea what we were doing we did not realize things like this existed. shell32 was the first target - you could make it half of its size by removing unneeded (by dedicated cMP machines) junk. Jack Wong eventually found some obscure version of shell32 that was tiny - around 17kB.sbgk wrote:thought you were trying to understand the coderickmcinnis wrote:Well, this cat is overwhelmed. Not yet dead, though.
I would not begin to understand how to use that.
That really can be made to do stuff one can do in PE Explorer? Looks more like the building blocks of your .exe.
what are you using to see that things have changed ?
Then PE Explorer was discovered (by someone in the group) which allowed looking much further inside each file and with the benefit that the changes made never destroyed the file. Sometimes "reshack"ed files would not work.
With PE Explorer you could see, and modify, the code. None of us did any of that. But you could disable error reporting which was a good thing for audio. It is a really great tool and they say they are working on a 64 bits version - hard to believe they have not had such a thing available before now.
This led to removing junk from all of the files which allowed an XP install of 18 mB. (I know I have said it a hundred times before, just as a reminder)
I was hoping you had found something like these tools that just might work with SERVER files. PE Explorer does not work with 64 bits files and RESOURCE HACKER, though you can remove stuff from the files when inserted they will not work. Whether this is the "fault" of reshack or just more of WINDOWS protecting itself I do not know.
Still think a minimized SERVER could offer something especially now that you are no longer using WASAPI.
That was what led to my question. When it come to CREATING files - that is something I will not be able to do which makes for gratitude to those who can!

Re: MQN
Unicode did the trick,Audiophilleo works fine with 7.68.
As for preferences, I think I will range rt high slightly over plain avx2, rt normal sounds a bit strained here on bright recordings, rt critical is out.
Cheers

Music sounds a little bit stressed.
OMG, this has become a soggy, soft focus version. No more sense of music, just mood
