Hi Fergus, I think that Veronica would rather I return to my listening exclusively to Classical music, because given it's greater dynamic range, the loud sections don't last long. She has yet to complain though. I rarely use headphones these days.
The Schubert on Radio 3 has gone down well.

I thought as much even given her tolerance levels LOL!!

... and this. Like new. Still has a 49d. Woolworths price sticker on it. Mono pressing.
Not his best. But nice to have.

Gerry, I like Lee Konitz and Coleman Hawkins, I'm not familiar with the Hunter and Hawk album though.

Coleman Hawkins is an artist that I return to a lot.

That Konitz album is terrific. A 1984 studio recording. Super playing by
all concerned.

Ben Webster -- aka The Frog -- was one of the finest musicians to grace the Ellington Orchestra. It too Duke several years to find an adaquate replacement in Paul Gonsalves. The Frog left in 1940 after the death of Jimmy Blanton who died from TB.

Ben Webster was in many ways my introduction to hifi. My friend in school had a dad who was interested in music and had a decent system. We used to listen to his Dylan, Dire Straits and Ben Webster records. We loved the story his dad used to tell about him seeing Ben Webster when Ben used to live in Copenhagen back in the "Montmartre days". He told us that Ben would just sit in a chair and play while tears were streaming down his cheeks. I must have heard that story a 100 times and always wondered if he was telling the truth:

This looks like Montmartre and it is Hugo Rasmussen on bass and Ole Streenberg on drums.

My friend went on to get a Thule Audio system with Snell speakers and a home made sub. He also build an air bearing arm for his Thorens deck. That system sounded amazing and was the seed that was sown for my interest in hifi years later.....
I eventually got through all the Ben Webster LPs in my local music library and taped loads of them....
I will now order some Ben Webster... On vinyl I think! I should remember the covers when I see them ;)
