It´s arguably the best recording dear Fergus. Il Giardino´s lineup of violinists is jaw dropping with 3 master virtuosos leading the way: Enrico Onofri, concertino, Riccardo Minasi, second concertino and Fabrizio Cipriani (who was one of Il Seminario Musicale´s concertinos) as first second violin.
They make an awesome sound of course, and I know, since I had the pleasure of hearing them play a selection of the Op.6 at the Theatre des Champs-Elysées in Paris a few years ago.
That must have been an absolutely wonderful concert Pepe and I know that you would have thoroughly enjoyed it!

Very interesting comments indeed. Fergus and Pepe would you recommend I get the Il Giardino Armonico Anthology [11cd Set] box set?

Igor Stravinsky
Le Sacre du Printemps
Cleveland Orchestra
Pierre Boulez - conducting.
This is a truly wonderful, dramatic and colourful performance of The Rite, it's a pleasure from start to finish and comes highly recommended.

This is a sparkling, masterful performance, full of fire and passion and complete with a virtuoso climax. The one thing that I have always wondered about with this work is why Tchaikovsky did not use that strong, powerful opening theme again after the first three minutes of the work?
That's a great CD.

Seán, I will be a little more unMexican in my recommendation and say that if you do not know them they are another very good ensemble and always bring a fresh approach to this music. The music itself should also be wonderful and coupled with a very fine ensemble I do not think that you can go wrong.
Essentially my message is the same as Pepe's, LOL!!!

That sounds like a good recommendation for James' July thread. I have neither that much of Stravinsky or of Boulez. I had just commented to Darren recently that Boulez was one that I must explore to some extent at least so this could be a good opportunity to kill two birds with one stone; and I do like the Cleveland Orchestra.

I have ten different versions of the Rite and it's one of my favourites, this is the DG CD, it's not to be confused with the earlier Boulez/CO recording on Sony.

Cheers for that Seán.
