how much would you pay if it was a new cable or power supply making the difference ?
I can't think of a power supply or cable which could bring the improvement 7.37 has wrought. I've not heard all previous versions but it massacres the ones I have heard.

Ah now Clive power supplies are important
Cables are icing
MQn is the best way to get the best out of digital
Ks hopefully will come up trumps soon
Huge potential
24 bit should blow our socks off soon enough

Power supplies are very important but on my untuned laptop 7.37 is seriously good. Of course it could be better but for now it's an exemplar.

For little tinkering or cost std laptop or desktop sound excellent

uploaded mqnplay 7.38 and portaudio v56

7.38 uses 10 ms period and realtime priority

v56 should sound a bit better, thought the previous versions were a bit muffled. Think I found out why ks versions seem to be softer sounding, another win for MQn.

7.37 + v56. better again. notes is now tending towards solid

7.38 + v56. technically better. something not quite right- has earaches.

----
7.38 + v56 sounds fine now. coz was using clockrate=256/512/.... now uses clockrate=10ms=448 sounds fine.
better again!

----
sound now fast and quite solid. mellow but not sloppy. great sound.

still need better timing. vocal vibration is more stable but need more stable.

just reading about circular buffers, probably the code isn't quite there yet.

My theory would be that the better and more direct the signal path from MQn to the device, the less influence the 'tinkering' will have. OS/Cables/PSU.

Based on nothing more than my Chord DAC's 4 second buffer reclocking has up until now not stopped me hearing significant differences in SQ between MQn versions. You would think that it might. Gordon was surprised at outset.

If MQn-KS could get to the stage of running just as well on a standard laptop as on a full-blown nige2000 tricked out 5 PSU mobo with AO Core - then Gordon can stop! I am looking at running MQn on a Windows tablet like the Microsoft Surface Pro 8.1 or more affordable a Dell Venue Pro 11. Anyone else tried that?

At least pa56+7.38 avx2 sounds like PCM again, the softness filter is gone.Still a grain free treble, better extension.Improved dynamics, excellent macro detail level, more expansive and free flowing than 5.14.Could be a teaser for the wasapi aficionados here ,but expecting the dense 5.14 texture level in KS is probably like waiting for a derailed train.

Real time priority? Yes,it seems so,consequently people running a post script batch file in Mqnload should do some editing.

The sycon 2.20 works with minimum latency and buffer .

Thanks sbgk, keep going, you are absolutely on the right track.

Cheers

That's good to hear about Thesycon 2.20 working. I will try 7.38/PA56 later although mine is 'Normal' not AVX2 and you are not using WaveIO, so not apples & apples.

Yes I saw Realtime Priority. I run a Tasker.bat script that sets MQn to 'High Priority' as several of us find 'Realtime' to be harsher. No idea if trying to set High Priority after MQnplay.exe has started would work. Only one way to find out of course.
